And before someone jumps in and starts mentioning Working Title, or PMDG, Aerosoft, etc, those are just a handful of developers. And those things are certainly true, but the point still stands.īut what has been the biggest disappointment for me is how closed down the sim is towards third party developers, and how resistant Microsobo are towards supporting them. You can also argue that most people here care more about entertainment than about realism. You may argue that it’s what they need to do to sell units and generate a profit. A point of concern for me is the attitude Microsobo have towards the realism aspect of this sim, and how it has been given a back seat to the entertainment aspect. To be quite honest, apart from the ATC, FS2020 is doing better in those areas than FSX or P3D. Which I honestly did not expect.īut for me and those who know a little or more about flight dynamics and flight procedures - it’s a huge let down.įor me, the huge letdown is not the current flight dynamics and flight procedures. I also never thought I would be able to run it, but I am succesfully using it on Shadow PC. But I wish they would turn up the realism more, as I am someone who would like to try stuff in the sim to see “what happens if” and you just cannot do that with MSFS. Stuff looks really close to real-life from 1000 - 2000 ft. No chimney smoke, no dust, windturbines not facing the wind, …īut I wanted to use it mostly to practice real-life VFR navigation and for that it is much better than what I used before.None of these are missing in FlightGear (they are barely modelled at all, but at least there is a runway to land on) Several big airfields in my area (EHEH for example) and all of the military airfields in Belgium were missing. The many airports missing is absolutely my biggest dissapointment.I have since learned that compared to the more popular flight sims, FlightGear is a little extreme in that department The level of realism for flight model and systems was below my expectations. But there were some things in general that I had expected to be there, but weren’t: I’m a bit of a weirdo, I come from FS98 then stopped, then only FlightGear for many years.įor VFR flying, the scenery out-of-the-box, is completely what I expected. I had expected them to at least get to 50% of my expectations set by those video’s.
The promo video’s were mouth-watering to an irresponsible degree.
It helped keep me sane in our incredibly strict lockdown, and it continues to bring me joy every day I think about where I will go next. I just love this game ! New aircraft, Airports and scenery every day Spawn anywhere in the world at any time of day with any type of weather… He would spend thousands on flights and travel to prepare for a particular shoot so he could find the right place to shoot from and the right time of year and the right weather and the right time of day and now he can do 90% of it on a $60 game instead ! There is a blog by a professional photographer who explained that people don’t realize how this ‘Game’ has changed the way he can prepare for a photo shoot in a ground breaking way ! In lockdown last year, when we couldn’t go 5 km from our house in Melbourne Australia, I could spawn anywhere in the world and just cruise about !!! It was so wonderful to feel connected with so many places and aircraft and just enjoy the brevity of what Microsoft and Asobo have accomplished.
I love it for the visual experience not the flight accuracy (which I’m sure is the main requirement for long time simmers.) Pre bought it through Steam, upgraded hardware constantly (which I love doing anyway) and have loved every minute since. Started playing MSFS X earlier last year, but got very excited to hear a new version with such ambitious visuals was coming. I used to play F22 raptor back in the early 90’s and had great fun trashing a billion dollars worth of hardware before breakfast !
